Guatemala Elections

For the first time in history, Guatemala's primary presidential elections were broadcast live from remote voting centers throughout the country, a feat made possible by NewCom and its deployment of REDiSat Network™. And on November 4th, NewCom will help the country make history again by enabling voters to watch the presidential elections as they unfold.

NewCom, the first sales channel selected by SES-AMERICOM to market its REDiSat Network™, has quickly discovered a myriad of applications for the system, which was originally developed as a dedicated satellite emergency communications solution. The key to success in Guatemala's primary elections was REDiSat's ability to provide temporary internet access in the remote areas where the nine voting centers are located, and support crucial video transmission via the Internet – all for a low cost, by-the-hour, capped pricing model.

The solution enabled journalists to immediately upload their video footage to a main voting center in Guatemala, where the stories were broadcast nationwide. In two cases, the was able to facilitate live feeds – far exceeding expectations.
