to Rural Colombia

NewCom is partnering with government officials in Colombia to bring 21st century communications to key government and community facilities in rural locations throughout the country.

The communications project – which involves over 600 locations nationwide – will connect hospitals, schools, police departments, fire departments and city government offices through high-speed Internet access that originates from the U.S. It will also give these key health, education and safety facilities access to advanced educational resources that can be delivered through the Internet. NewCom is facilitating the transport portion of the project, providing antennas, routers and modems that will point to its strategically located satellites in Miami to ensure excellent, cost-efficient Internet coverage to all of the rural locations.

NewCom to Increase Communications Coverage to South American Customer Service Center

To address the growing U.S. demand for call center services in this region, NewCom has been asked to increase its communications transport capacity to facilitate a 500 seat call center – up from 300 seats that it has supported for the past year.

With a strong teleport presence in Miami and three satellites covering Latin America, NewCom is able to provide redundant, high quality connections to the call center. NewCom to Power Cyber Cafes
in Central Colombia

NewCom has been selected to bring U.S.-based Internet services to 149 cyber cafes located in and around Colombia's capital city, Bogota.

The project, slated to begin in June, will enable residents and visitors to tap into the power of the Internet and access everything that U.S. based Internet services provide – from search engines such as Google and MSN to social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube.

To ensure the strongest signals possible for each cyber cafe location, NewCom is providing access to three satellites that all feature an extensive Latin American footprint. NewCom is employing its internal mapping program to pinpoint the longitude and latitude of each cyber cafe and then direct the antennas to the satellite with the clearest signal to each specific location. In addition, NewCom is connecting with four Tier 1 providers at its Miami teleport and has two fiber rings coming into the facility; providing full redundancy to ensure seamless, uninterrupted coverage should an outage occur.

South American PTT Selects NewCom for Back-Up Satellite Service

After suffering two storm-related outages over the past year that left this South American country isolated from the rest of the world, a government-owned PTT has turned to NewCom for help.

NewCom is increasing the PTT's backup satellite coverage to 100/40 Mbps from the 20/10 Mbps it previously had – tripling the amount of backup capacity available to them.

To provide the emergency backup service at the most cost-efficient rate possible, NewCom is offering a low monthly minimum plan that features built-in burst capabilities to facilitate spikes in usage.

“When an event occurs and their fiber goes down, a router automatically moves traffic to our satellite link,” notes NewCom President and COO Jaime Dickinson. “We have the flexibility to charge for the back-up satellite services by the day, by the week or by the month – giving our clients the redundancy they need at a cost they can afford.”

Telemedicine Project Brings Advanced Medical Support to Rural Clinics in Colombia

Medical staff operating remote clinics throughout rural Colombia now have access to some of the most advanced medical resources and support available, thanks to a new telemedicine project being supported by NewCom International.

NewCom teamed with the Colombian government in March to provide Internet access and teleconferencing services to 20 rural medical facilities located throughout the country. The communications services enable the medical staff at the different sites to participate in live telemedicine consultations with leading medical experts from various hospitals throughout the United States.
